How do you ensure the undertone is visible in a digital colour analysis when the camera mostly captures the overtone and can’t be white balanced?

Published: 4 June 2025 Category: Digital Colour Analysis By: Customer Service Team

Cameras, especially phone cameras, can amplify the overtone and make the undertone difficult to interpret. Our digital colour analysis therefore considers both your photos and your own observations.

How do we handle camera limitations?

  • Multiple photos in daylight minimise white balance errors.
  • We supplement the photos with your observations about hair, skin, and eyes.
  • Our extensive experience with colour analysis helps us see undertones even when lighting isn’t perfect.
  • If the result feels wrong, we always redo the analysis at no extra cost.

Why might the self-test show something different?

The self-test is based on the answers you choose and works mainly as a point calculation. It’s intended as guidance. For a more accurate indication, try the draping test, which lays colour swatches against an uploaded photo, or the Colour Mirror, which recolours the garment you’re wearing in real time in your browser.

Tips for better photos

  1. Photograph in soft daylight, preferably outdoors or by a window.
  2. Keep the background neutral and avoid strong colours near the face.
  3. Take multiple photos with different tops to see how the skin tone is affected.

With good photos and our expertise, a digital analysis can give a clear picture of your personal colour palette.
