“Sandra is a perfect example of Deep Autumn's warm, sophisticated depth” — Stina Lönnkvist, Colour analyst
Deep Autumn colours have depth, warmth and rich, earthy tones. Sandra Bullock suits, among others, deep olive, oxblood, aubergine, petrol and antique gold. Lighter shades look best paired with deeper ones, so the whole look keeps its weight. Light pastels, stark white and clear primary colours can compete with her depth. Black works, but espresso and deep plum add that little extra.
Flattering
The ochre knit jumper gives her skin a warm glow and lifts her dark hair, and the deep, golden tone matches the season.
Why it works
Less flattering
The pale lemon polo neck makes her skin look pale and sallow, and the light, cool colour looks too weak next to her dark hair. Olive green, petrol or wine red would have been more flattering.
Why it doesn’t
Olive green against wine red is dramatic yet natural for Deep Autumn
Deep tones in eye makeup, such as espresso, bronze and plum, frame the eyes and harmonise with dark hair
Petrol and deep teal are perfect statement colours
Deep Autumn and Deep Winter are sometimes confused. Both seasons have deep, moderately clear colours. The main difference is temperature. Deep Winter's palette is predominantly cool, with blue and grey undertones, while Deep Autumn's is warmer, with undertones of rust, copper, and gold. Both seasons suit dark shades, but they look harmonious only when the colour choice matches the natural undertone.
